The comments tonight were dominated by opposition to Plant Washington. We were especially pleased to have new supporters from Jones and Wilkinson Counties, along with new folks from Washington County. Due to considerable work by FACE members we were able to submit 400 names in oppostion to the plant.
Having hard working partners helped make tonight a success. We had new voices thanks to Ogeechee Riverkeeper staff and volunteers. The Georgia Chapter of the Sierra Club submitted 600 comments. A native West Virginian, Amelia Shenstone of SACE, was able to refute the comments in support of coal as a plentiful and easy to access fuel supply. Midge Sweet spoke on behalf of all Georgians for Smart Energy partners and set the tone for comments based on water depletion, water pollution, interbasin transfer issues, and the need to realistically assess water demand and planning.
